Job searching can be a job in itself so start as early as possible.
Use a variety of resources available to you:
- Online job portals. You can use a general job board or find portals for students such as College Recruiter. Find out if your school has its own student job portal.
- Career Fairs on campus will allow you to talk to real people and get a better sense of the jobs available in their industries.

- Don’t drop the ball on your number 1: your schoolwork. Your job should not interfere.
- Make time to relax and socialize as well. It’s important for your mental health.
- Be realistic about how much time you need for all your activities to avoid burnout.
Applications & Interviews
After finding suitable jobs to apply to, put your best foot forward.
- Format your resume/CV to showcase your strengths & skills.
- Practice your interviewing skills until you feel confident.
- Use the career center on campus to help you with skills and advice to help land you the job.
In your search for a student job:
- Look in various online portals and keep your eyes open for on-campus job postings.
- Write down your needs, wants, and limitations to help narrow down your search.
- Identify gaps in your current schedule to fit the job in. Realistically balance it with all you do.
- Give your best effort and get help with your application, CV/resume, and interviewing skills.
- Once you get the job, make the most it. The job might be a stepping stone to greater things!
